So you’ve decided to try golfing. Great! Cold Water Canyon at Chula Vista Resort is a great course for all ability levels. However, there are a few things you may want to know as you start a new sport. Here are some tips for the new golfer.
The right equipment is important to have as you start your golfing career. When looking for clubs there are a few things you may want to keep in mind. You will only need a few clubs to start and it’s important to focus on what will help you learn. Don’t be embarrassed to use clubs that are designed for beginners. Still not sure what to buy? Stop by the Pro Shop and we’d be happy to assist you!
Course etiquette is important. You don’t want be inconsiderate of anyone else on the course. So when you are out there make sure you don’t lag behind. However, you also need to make sure to wait your turn. You may not always tee off in the same order and your ball placement may also determine when it is your turn. If your ball has any chance of hitting someone yell “Fore!” You may use this term a lot when you first start out, it alerts others on the course to watch out. Lastly, take care of the course. Be wary of where you drive your cart and always rake a bunker if you hit a ball out of one.
The hardest part is getting started. Nothing is going to feel natural right away so don’t feel discouraged if you don’t see results immediately. You may also want to consider taking lessons so someone will be there to teach not only the fundamental but also a fully swing, short game and putting. If you invest in a membership at Cold Water Canyon lessons with PGA Director Todd Campbell are 10% off. You can also attend free golf clinics.
Starting a new sport is hard. Don’t let yourself get down as you learn. These things take time. Don’t let what the scorecard says get into your head.
